This week in our Kidco Curriculum we are teaching the kiddies all about Dairy! Our teachers are explaining that dairy products come from cows and how important dairy is to our overall health! The little ones will be sampling different forms of dairy and dairy substitutes such as milk, soy and rice milk, cheese and yogurt. They will be learning all about calcium and Vitamin D and how these nutrients help us maintain strong bones and teeth!
They will even try “milking cows” as a fun exciting way to learn where milk comes from!
Not only is dairy important to our little ones, it is important to us! We must be cognisant that we need to continue to eat dairy and dairy products to get the proper amount of calcium our bodies need! Take a look at the recommended daily amount of calcium and Vitamin D here!
We have all grown up with our parents telling us the importance of drinking milk. Milk and eating dairy products are the easiest and best source of getting the essential mineral, calcium in your diet. Some other foods that contain calcium that are not as obvious are kale, broccoli, bok choy, fish with soft bones like salmon, most grains and a number of breakfast cereals that have been fortified with calcium.
In the up and coming months the kiddies will learn even more about the importance of dairy in their diets during Dairy Month this July.
