Grand Opening at Bloor and Christie, Toronto

National corporate-sponsored child care centre provides children with a lesson in sustainability at new location in Toronto

(MARCH 2, 2012 – TORONTO) – A new corporate-sponsored child care centre in Toronto’s Bloor-Christie neighbourhood is getting ready to green budding minds, providing children with a love and understanding of protecting the environment.

Opened in response to growing demand from clients for childcare spots in this community, the new Kids & Company location will provide infants to preschool-age children with lessons in the 3 R’s (reduce, reuse, recycle) through activities such as learning to grow plants in the classroom and outside in the playground. This is in addition to the existing proprietary programs offered in reading, art and sign language which are designed to stimulate young minds.

“We are excited to provide children with this hands-on learning opportunity in sustainability,” said Victoria Sopik, Founder and CEO of Kids & Company. “Children are very impressionable in the first six years so this is an opportune time to educate them not only in the areas of reading, writing and art but also on the importance of maintaining the world around us.”

The new Kids & Company centre is located in a building that was built in the early 1920s but has been adapted to be more functional, modern and energy efficient. Designed by an award winning firm known for its sustainable design work, Paul Raff Studio Incorporated Architect ensured that all sourced materials from tiles to paint were environmentally friendly.

Kids & Company will officially open its newest Toronto location on Tuesday, March 6 at 703 Bloor Street West in Toronto. Paul Raff, the architect behind the sustainably designed centre, will be present for the ribbon-cutting ceremony at 3:30 p.m.

The opening will include an open house from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. which will showcase and provide information about its services which include guaranteed placement, nutritious meals, proprietary education programs in reading and art and emergency back-up child care services. Snacks and refreshments will be served.

This Bloor-Christie site will be the tenth location in Toronto for Kids & Company and will have spaces for approximately 56 children from infant to preschool. Employees of corporate clients such as Deloitte, CIBC, Sunnybrook Hospital and the Bank of Montreal will have access to a guaranteed spot for their children.

In nine years, the company has grown from one centre in one city to approximately 40 centres in more than 20 cities and continues to grow. While priority placement goes to corporate clients, its community locations also offer limited spots to local families. Additional locations are scheduled to open in the coming months in Hamilton and Winnipeg.
