Kidco Kitchen Activity – Food Collages!

Last week, we had a very special guest at our office. Kids & Company’s Human Resource Manager’s daughter spent the day with us and actually influenced my blog for today. She was looking for a fun activity idea and decided, seeing my many interesting food magazines, that she would like to put together a food collage. I was so pleased to know she had an interest in food! We set her up and she spent some time making a collage of her favourite foods. It gave me many great teaching opportunities. I was able to explain to her different healthy and tasty options and then she was able to independently choose which of her favourites she wanted to include on her own personal food collage.

What a great idea for little ones! When looking for a fun idea that can teach your children about healthy tasty foods, why not make it into an interactive art activity? Depending on the age of your child, you can pre-cut different food items from newspapers, flyers and magazines and then have your child put them together in a colourful display. The best part about food is that it all comes in a rainbow of colours making for visually appealing art displays!

You can make different collages of your favourite fruits, vegetables, maybe favourite meal ideas? Why not a collage of healthy things to have for breakfast, lunch and dinner? Then they must be posted! It’s a great activity to do together as a family and an even better teaching opportunity. After the activity is complete, have your child choose one of their favourite pictures and try buying the items or ingredients together at the local grocery store to enjoy at a meal sometime soon.

I included a copy of Sydney’s favourite food collages below.

Be sure to send me links to your child’s favourite food collages @KidcoKitchen.
