Welcome to Brightstart Burnaby, by Kids & Company!
This location is “by” Kids & Company because it retains the location and building of the previous daycare, BrightStart Children’s Academy. Brightstart Burnaby was purchased by Kids & Company and now operates with our staff and proprietary programming.
We are located in the Sperling area, right at the corner of Lougheed Highway and Bainbridge Ave. Our site is easily accessible by car and by transit, as we are close to the Sperling Burnaby Lake SkyTrain Station. Parking is also available on-site which makes for easy drop-offs and pick-ups.
Our location is proudly endorsed by Eco-Healthy Child Care®, a program that partners with child care professionals to eliminate environmental hazards in early learning settings with the goal of protecting the health of children and staff.
Our 4 classrooms can accommodate 73 children from 2 months to 12 years old in the Infant, Toddler, Preschool, and School Age programs. School Age is available for Before and After School care and Summer Camp, while the other programs are available on a full-time or backup care basis.
We are lucky to have an indoor gym that keeps children active throughout the day. Classrooms have big bright windows, and are equipped with webcams for you to keep up to date on your child’s day. Outside, there is a play area with wood-chips and plenty of toys.
Our location will soon be offering an optional Kidco Kitchen meal service so that our families may choose to opt-in and receive nutritious catered lunch and snacks each day.

Regarding Open House: Please note our Burnaby location is available on the first Saturday of every month between 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.
I’m Jan Biason, the Centre Director of the Brightstart Burnaby by Kids & Company, and I have a Master of Arts in Educational Administration and a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education. I have been working in child care since 2012. I am passionate about working in child care because I have a desire to make a positive difference in the lives of children and families, and because I have a love of teaching, nurturing, and supporting the growth and development of young children. Working at Kids & Company gives me an opportunity to build meaningful relationships with children and families!
Kids & Company’s Infant program welcomes newborns up to roughly 15 months. Infants learn about the world around them through their senses, so exploration is critical to their development. Nurturing educators support the children while they take in their surroundings, encouraging them to experience everything the classroom offers; be it creative art, exploring with blocks, listening to songs or engaging in story-time. Our infant program encourages children to follow their own established routines, while becoming comfortable and secure in a new group setting.
Kids & Company’s Toddler program is for children between the ages of roughly 15 months and 2.9 years. Toddlers are mobile and eager to explore their environment. As they strive for independence, our educators use an Emergent curriculum approach to learning that supports each child’s individuality. Some of the most important learning outcomes of our toddler program are language development, socialization, self-help skills, and the development of fine and gross motor skills.
Kids & Company’s Preschool program is designed for children between the ages of roughly 2.9 - 6 years. Our educators interact, observe and interpret the interests of our children to encourage discoveries. Our Preschool program provides a foundation for developing greater independence and problem-solving skills; the program integrates new concepts into our children’s world view, promotes sharing and mutual respect, and prepares them for Kindergarten.
Kids & Company’s School Age program accepts children from 5 - 12 years old (Grade 1 - 6) and is available at select locations. Programs include Before and After School Care, School Break Programming, and Summer Camp. Classroom space exists for smaller groups to gather, and activities are designed to meet the needs of varying developmental levels, touching on arts, science, math, drama, imaginative play, and physical fitness. Educators are also available to provide academic support for children that wish to do their homework during After School Care.
