Our Kids & Company Millrise centre is located near Millrise Blvd. and 149th Avenue, just a block away from the C-Train line. We have 6 classrooms and can accommodate up to 72 children. Our centre is brightly coloured and spacious with large windows that brighten up our classrooms. We have several play areas, including a large indoor play space we call the Jungle Room. We are adjacent to a senior citizen complex and our preschoolers often go to visit our friends next door. We’ve found that these multigenerational visits foster compassion, understanding and patience in the children. It is truly amazing to see the joy that the children and seniors bring to one another!
We know children who sing, dance and explore music regularly perform better in academic settings and tend to have higher self-esteem and social skills. That’s why we believe in introducing it at an early age and run a daily music program that involves interactive songs, rhythmic expression, games and movement. At this centre, we are also affiliated with Together with Heather Music. Heather and her musicians join us each week – on rotating days so our part-time children see them – bringing along age-appropriate tools like shakers, rattles, ukuleles and more. With a background in musical therapy and a successful career in creating children’s albums, this partner complements our music program perfectly. https://rattleandstrum.com/together-with-heather-music.
We have 8 drop off and pick up parking spots in front of our daycare for parents.
Meet the Director
My name is name is Wendy Hutchison and I am the Director at the Kids & Company Millrise centre. I have been in the child care field for more than 20 years and received my Early Childhood Education degree from Mount Royal University. I just celebrated my 10th anniversary at Kids & Company and feel very fortunate to work with such a wonderful group of people! To let you know a bit about myself, I love the outdoors, including gardening, camping and hiking. Visiting Hawaii and Alaska and seeing their incredible views are in second and third place on my to do list. Both right underneath winning the lottery! I love working at the Kids & Company Millrise centre because of the amazing staff, spacious rooms and our beautiful backyard. I get to share my love for the outdoors each day with our children in our large backyard and playground. We often watch the robins build their nests in our large, shady trees, look at snowflake patterns in the winter, or hunt for the prettiest leaves in the fall! Spending time with children has always been a passion of mine and I love teaching them everyday! One family recently told me the story of when they were going to “Wendy’s” for lunch. When they got there, their young son Joshua said to his parents, “I thought we were going to Wendy’s, this isn’t her house!” and got upset! When I hear that the children enjoy learning and spending time here at Millrise as much as I do, it never fails to put a smile on my face. I’d love to meet you and tell you why I think Kids & Company Millrise would be a wonderful place for your child and your family. Please come take a tour and see everything we have to offer!
At Kids & Company, we work with your family to ensure that the transition is a smooth one. Before your child’s first day, we’ll provide information on what to expect. We’ll create an integration schedule that is right for your child and every day that your child is in the classroom, you’ll receive a daily report that lets you know how your child’s day was. You’ll also be able to see him or her on our in classroom web cameras. The Centre Director will even send you an email before the end of the day if your child has a special “wow” moment that day.
Toddlers learn best in the context of relationships within small groups. There are fewer distractions and children’s activities are more focused. In Kids & Company toddler classrooms, our small groups allow very young children to make connections, form caring relationships, and learn to understand other children.
All two-year-olds examine everything they see, hear, feel and observe in an attempt to make sense of the world around them. In our preschool programs, Kids & Company teachers interact, observe and interpret the interests of preschool students to encourage further discoveries by planning activities and investigations that expand your child’s learning.
Kids & Company runs comprehensive kindergarten programs designed for children who are 4 or 5 years old (junior and senior kindergarten age) to prepare them for Grade 1. Using emergent curriculum techniques to adapt to the children’s’ interests and skills, we set a foundation of early literacy, numeracy, artistry, and the construction of relationships and ideas. Kindergarten programs are integrated into full-time child care to provide convenience and continuity.
