Emergent Curriculum: A Play-based Approach to Early Learning
At Kids & Company, we follow an emergent approach to curriculum—a child-centered, play-based way of learning that begins with careful observation of children’s interests, questions, and developmental cues. Rather than relying on rigid, pre-set lesson plans, our educators observe what each child is drawn to and create meaningful, individualized learning opportunities that build on those interests. This responsive approach supports deeper engagement and learning by meeting children where they are—academically, socially, and emotionally.
Daily Digital Reporting
You’ll receive daily reports on what your child eats, their nap times, curriculum activities, milestones and more. Delivering mid-day smiles as well as important insight into your child’s day.
Health & Safety
Every classroom follows rigorous health and safety protocols, tailored to meet local licensing and regional public health requirements. Your child’s well-being is always our top priority.
This location celebrates the joy of learning through play, supported by an emergent curriculum that nurtures children's development of essential skills. Striving to inspire a lifelong love of learning in both children and their families, enriching the lives with compassion and excellence.
Meet the Director
Nancy Ivey
For the past 17 years, Nancy was Assistant Director/Program Coordinator of Elmwood Childcare’s 3 Centres. Her position has provided the opportunity to support educators as a pedagogical leader and to mentor them as they embraced play-based programming, pedagogical documentation, Nova Scotia’s Early Learning Curriculum Framework, and the East Hants Outdoor Play Project. After graduating from Mount Allison University in 1992 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, Nancy entered the diploma program from Nova Scotia College of Early Education. For the past 29 years Early Childhood Education has been her focus. Her belief as a ECE is that children need play-based learning experiences, with a balance of child directed activities and intentional teaching. Providing young children with the opportunities to explore their environment and to have the freedom to really dedicate time play indoors and outdoors.
