Meet the Director
Nancy Ivey
My name is Nancy Ivey and I am the Centre Director at the Kids & Company Elmsdale location. I hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Mount Allison University, an Early Childhood Education Diploma from NSCEC, and an Adult Education Certificate from Jane Norman College, and I have been working in child care for over 30 years, wearing many hats throughout my career. I am passionate about creating environments where children can explore, imagine, and build meaningful relationships through play, both indoors and outdoors. My philosophy centers on the importance of creativity, nature, and inquiry-based learning. What I love most about working at Kids & Company is the strong connection with families and staff, and being part of an organization that prioritizes quality care and the well-being of every child. Elmsdale is the original Elmwood Child Care location and is known for its long-standing quality child centered practice in the community. After graduating from Mount Allison University in 1992 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, Nancy entered the diploma program from Nova Scotia College of Early Education. For the past 29 years Early Childhood Education has been her focus. Her belief as a ECE is that children need play-based learning experiences, with a balance of child directed activities and intentional teaching. Providing young children with the opportunities to explore their environment and to have the freedom to really dedicate time play indoors and outdoors.
