What are your Family’s New Year’s Resolutions?

Let me first start this by wishing all of our Kids & Company families a Happy New Year! I hope you all have had a wonderful start to 2014! I had a lovely time ringing in a New Year with my family and I hope you did as well. 2014 is sure to bring an exciting year for my favourite Kidco Kitchen.

The start of every new year is a time for new beginnings and the ever popular New Year’s resolution. Do you have a New Year’s resolution this year? This time of year (and hopefully continuing into the rest of the year), people are trying to eat healthier and be more active. Why not involve your children in the process?

I love the idea of making New Year’s resolutions with the whole family. Children love having a goal and love the sense of accomplishing something. By including them in New Year’s resolution planning, you can create a great family tradition.

Every family’s New Year’s resolution can be different. The age of your children can determine how involved they can be in the planning process. If you have really young children, you may do most of the resolution-planning yourself. Maybe make a resolution to plan at least 1 or 2 active family outings a month. Why not a family walking activity? Our regular schedules keep us so busy, that sometimes we forget how important planned time together can be. Make a point for more family time.

With food being my passion, incorporating healthy eating into your New Year’s resolutions is always a good idea in my books! What about cutting out junk food? Trying a new fruit or veggie every week? What about something as simple as preparing healthy meals together as a family? Children love the chance to mix the dry ingredients, set the table and/or even pick the menu. How about one night each week everyone helps out! This is a great time to teach your children about the importance of the different food groups and healthy eating – a great way to create healthy habits they will carry with them for a lifetime.

I love this article from Parents.com – it includes great New Year’s resolutions children have made. I especially like slide #3. Enjoy! http://www.parents.com/holiday/new-years/resolution/new-years-resolutions-kids-made/#page=11.

Let me know what creative healthy family resolutions you have for 2014 @KidcoKitchen.
