Kids & Company Introduces Family-Style Dining

I am back in Ontario this week after a wonderful week out West. Let me first take this opportunity to commend the amazing Vancouver Team. Chef Shelly, Chef Jenny and Sous Chef Sue are a dedicated group and a lot of fun to work with. The kitchens have been stocked with all new equipment giving them the tools to cook up the best meals for your little ones.

I got an opportunity to meet with the parents of the Vancouver, North Vancouver and Richmond sites to talk about the new menu and any food concerns. I was very happy to see that the parents are just as excited as I am to take the food in our centres to a new level.  I appreciate all the feedback that has been given to me and I will be sure to incorporate it on future menu changes.

In last week’s blog I introduced the Kidco Kitchen Butter Chicken. It was a huge hit out in BC getting rave reviews from our little food critics.

“My tummy is so full.”

“Yummy! It’s so spicy.”

“Can my mommy make this at home.”

“Thank you, Chef Lisa.”

As many of the BC parents have learned we are integrating family-style dining into each of our Kids & Company sites. Family-style dining is a method of serving the food to our children by bringing the main and side dishes to the table in serving bowls. This allows the children to serve themselves. The children pour their own milk and scoop their own portions improving their fine motor skills. I am a huge supporter of family-style dining as it helps to empower the children promoting pride and ownership of the food they are eating. Family-style dining has other benefits too! It promotes the tradition of enjoying conversation and healthy nutritious food together. At the end of the meal, Kids & Company children scrape their own plates and help with the clean-up. Try this at home! You’d be amazed at how accomplished and capable your children are.

Here’s to our dedicated team who are building healthy bodies and minds!

Cheers,
