Outdoor play, the Kidco way!

What will the children play with? Why isn’t there a slide or monkey bars? Will there be enough for my child to do?

These are just a few of the questions that arise when some parents tour Kids & Company outdoor play spaces. As you may know, we have built many child care centres over the last ten years. Usually we design a wide open outdoor play space that does not have any type of built in structures in it.  After more than 30 years of experience in developing high quality child care, we have decided that the wide open space is the best option for the programs and activities that we offer our children.

Every so often parents will look at the aesthetics of the outdoor play spaces and activities that occur within. A few parents have thoughtfully questioned…why does such a highly regarded child care not have play structures within their playgrounds?  The answer is quite simple:  Kids & Company chooses to do without them.  Although play structures can be colourful and enticing for children, Kids & Company prefers to offer free open space where children can activity engage in imaginative activities, participate in their unique Munchkinetics program (a physical education program developed exclusively for Kids & Company) and focus on child-teacher interactions.

Play structures can limit and restrict the amount of available space for our qualified teachers to implement their planned outdoor activities for the children in their care.  There is always a wide selection of equipment and play materials that are provided for the children to manipulate and handle when they are not involved in planned activities.   Kids & Company encourages children to learn about the world through active engagement and child-initiated experiences.
