National Child Care Funding in Canada

The federal government has a stated goal of ensuring that all families have access to high-quality, affordable, and flexible early learning and child care. Their ultimate goal is to bring fees for regulated child care down to $10 per day on average within the next five years. Kids & Company is participating in the funding programs in all provinces where applicable. Please see below for details on how the child care funding has been rolled out in each region, to date.

Alberta

Fees have been reduced by up to $635 per month for Infants attending regularly scheduled full time or part time cae, and by up to $510 per month to Toddlers attending regularly scheduled full time or part time care. Preschool and Kindergarten fees have been reduced by up to $450 per month for children attending regularly scheduled full time or part time care.

British Columbia

Effective December 1, 2022 monthly child care fees have been reduced by up to $900 per month for Infants and Toddlers registered for regularly scheduled full time or part time care, and up to a total of $545 per month for children ages 3-5 registered for regularly scheduled full or part time care.

Manitoba

Kids & Company has not been given the opportunity to opt-in to any funding program in the province of Manitoba.

Nova Scotia 

As of January 1, 2023, the Infant fee reduction will increase to $23 per day for regularly scheduled full time or part time Infants and $18.25 per day for regularly scheduled full time or part time Toddlers and Preschoolers. The total fee reduction for School-age children in full day care will be $10 per day. For School-age children attending before and after school care, the total fee reduction will be $6 per day and for those attending only after school care, the fee reduction will be $4.50 per day. The fee reduction for School-age children attending only before school care, remains at $3.00 per day.

Ontario

The Ontario Government has successfully rolled out the initial phase of the Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care (CWELCC) System. All Kids & Company families will have received the initial 25% fee reduction, retroactive from April 2022 through to December 2022, by the end of 2022. 

The government has confirmed that as of January 1, 2023, fees will be further reduced. The total reduction in fees will be 52.75% off of March 2022 fees (which was the initial Kids & Company fee, before the retroactive funding was rolled out, this past April). As with the previous round of funding, this fee reduction will be applied to our families’ accounts once the funding from the government has been received. At this time, we do not have confirmation as to when we will receive the funding.  If a family pays the full fee and then exits care before receiving their refund, they will receive the amount via cheque, mailed to their home address.
