Everything is Just Peachy

I’ll admit, I've noticed that there is a crispness to the air that was not there before. Before the seasons change, make sure to take advantage of all of the great fruits and vegetables that are in season in the Canadian summer months. As I’m sure you've noticed, I love blogging about what’s in season. Recently, I've talked about corn-on-the-cob, berries, and summer salads. This week I thought I’d blog about another one of my many favorites, the peach. The peach originated in China and has very special significance in Chinese culture. Peach trees are considered the tree of life and the peach a symbol of immortality and unity.

Peaches are in season in Canada during the months of July, August and September. This means you still have a few weeks to buy this fruit from your local farmer’s market. Don’t miss out! Peaches are a great source of fibre and vitamin A. They help to regulate the immune system and fight off infections.

Looking for a great recipe that uses peaches as a main ingredient? Why not try any one of the many recipes from Canadian Living: http://bit.ly/14Lvq2N. This article gives you so many different options to choose from. You can make Peach Sorbet, a Chilled Spiced Peach Soup, Peach Melba, or my personal favourite, the Peach Blueberry Crumble Pie!

Let me know what recipe you end up trying! You can always tweet me @Kidco Kitchen.
