We are located in the Central neighbourhood of Nanaimo, near the intersection of Northfield Rd. and Nanaimo Pkwy and are easily accessible by car or transit. You’ll also find our on-site parking makes drop-off and pick-up easy for parents and caregivers.
Our location is proudly endorsed by Eco-Healthy Child Care®, a program that partners with child care professionals to eliminate environmental hazards in early learning settings with the goal of protecting the health of children and staff.
This centre functions as a unique partnership between Kids & Company and the Edgewood Treatment Centre. We have a small building on the Edgewood property that has a capacity of 16 children split between 2 classrooms. Our Infant, Toddler, and Preschool programs are available with the option of full-time, part-time, or backup care.
At Kids & Company, we use an emergent curriculum and learn-through-play philosophy. This means classrooms are equipped with educational toys and Early Childhood Educators are there to readily guide children as their interests emerge.
Inside are open-concept rooms with plenty of natural light, while outside we are surrounded by nature and have access to the entire property to explore year-round. We often go on trail walks where we find frogs, mice, bunnies and other friendly critters.

Meet the Director
My name is Grace Louis, and I am the Centre Director of Nanaimo. I have been working in child care for more than 35 years. I am passionate about working in child care because I love watching children develop in all aspects and witnessing how they explore their world and gain insights. I enjoy working at Kids & Company due to the strong teamwork within the organization.
Kids & Company’s Infant program welcomes newborns up to roughly 15 months. Infants learn about the world around them through their senses, so exploration is critical to their development. Nurturing educators support the children while they take in their surroundings, encouraging them to experience everything the classroom offers; be it creative art, exploring with blocks, listening to songs or engaging in story-time. Our infant program encourages children to follow their own established routines, while becoming comfortable and secure in a new group setting.
Kids & Company’s Toddler program is for children between the ages of roughly 15 months and 2.9 years. Toddlers are mobile and eager to explore their environment. As they strive for independence, our educators use an Emergent curriculum approach to learning that supports each child’s individuality. Some of the most important learning outcomes of our toddler program are language development, socialization, self-help skills, and the development of fine and gross motor skills.
Kids & Company’s Preschool program is designed for children between the ages of roughly 2.9 - 6 years. Our educators interact, observe and interpret the interests of our children to encourage discoveries. Our Preschool program provides a foundation for developing greater independence and problem-solving skills; the program integrates new concepts into our children’s world view, promotes sharing and mutual respect, and prepares them for Kindergarten.
