Our Learning Environment: Kids & Company’s Nanaimo centre is one of our most unique centres with just two classrooms and a capacity of 16 children. Each classroom contains educational materials, age-appropriate toys, and child-sized equipment to help little ones learn and grow. This centre is a unique partnership between Kids & Company and Edgewood Treatment Centre! We are proud to offer emergent programming and care to the surrounding community, as well as employees and patients of Edgewood Treatment Centre. Our new centre gives prospective Early Childhood Education students an opportunity to learn about trauma-informed practice, emotional intelligence and the importance of inclusion for high-risk, vulnerable or underprivileged families.
Our Programs: At Kids & Company, we use an emergent curriculum and learn through play philosophy. We’re so proud of our proprietary programs. They include Alpha-Mania (pre-literacy and early reading), Mini Masters (art), and Munchkinetics (movement) and are specially designed to engage our children in a learning process that encourages self-expression, creativity, coordination and most importantly, fun! We often hear children singing the Alpha-Mania theme song before the teacher even begins the lessons, a clear indication of their enthusiasm for learning through play. You’ll find sign language in our baby and toddler rooms. More than just a daycare, Kids & Company provides a superior educational environment for your child. All our children participate in music, French, science & exploration, and creative play throughout our day.

Meet The Director
My name is Ashley Anderson and I am the Centre Director at Kids & Company Nanaimo. I am a recipient of an Early Childhood Educator Diploma and have been working in the child care field for 12 years. For as long as I can remember, I wanted to have a career working with children.
As for me, I have 3 young children, a Labrador Retriever, and an incredible partner by my side. I was born and raised in a large family in Calgary, Alberta before moving to British Columbia in 2015!
I really enjoy hiking and exploring the outdoors. I completed the West Coast Trail in 2019 solo, and it was then that I fell in love with Vancouver Island. When I am not eating, sleeping or breathing all things early childhood education and motherhood, I am writing or camping.
My favourite thing about this centre is the beautiful space and surroundings. We are so lucky to have trees, grass and gardens engulfing where the children play.
Now that you know more about me, I would love to meet you. Come by our centre for a tour and see how Kids & Company can provide the right care and education for your child.
At Kids & Company, we work with your family to ensure that the transition is a smooth one. Before your child’s first day, we’ll provide information on what to expect. We’ll create an integration schedule that is right for your child and every day that your child is in the classroom, you’ll receive a daily report that lets you know how your child’s day was. You’ll also be able to see him or her on our in classroom web cameras. The Centre Director will even send you an email before the end of the day if your child has a special “wow” moment that day.
Toddlers learn best in the context of relationships within small groups. There are fewer distractions and children’s activities are more focused. In Kids & Company toddler classrooms, our small groups allow very young children to make connections, form caring relationships, and learn to understand other children.
All two-year-olds examine everything they see, hear, feel and observe in an attempt to make sense of the world around them. In our preschool programs, Kids & Company teachers interact, observe and interpret the interests of preschool students to encourage further discoveries by planning activities and investigations that expand your child’s learning.
