Mad About Mother’s Day

This month of May is turning into a great one. Not only has the weather this week been absolutely beautiful, a very special weekend is coming up! Mother’s Day is this Sunday, May 12th. Mother’s Day is a great time to honour our mothers and mother figures. As a mother of three wonderful children, I am looking forward to spending time with my family this weekend.

At Kids & Company we want to make sure all of our Kidco Moms feel extra special. From May 6th to 10th all of our Kids & Company locations across the country have been or will be hosting a special Mother’s Day celebration to remind our Moms just how special they are. Make sure to check with your Site Director for the specific date if you have not done so already.

There are so many different ways to show Mom, Grand Moms and even Great Grand Moms how much we love them. This weekend why not have the children host a special Tea Party just for Mom? Even Mom can help out with all of the fun if she wants! With some assistance from an adult, your children can transform the kitchen table into an elegant dining experience. Small details, like a beautiful table cloth and a special flower arrangement out of scrap paper or fresh flowers from the garden will give the party that “extra something special”. Make sure that your children get the chance to invite some friends. Any of their favourite stuffed animals are great guests to have around the table. A colourful invitation placed on Mom’s pillow is a fun activity for your little ones to put together and deliver.

You’re invited a Kidco Kitchen Tea Party…

Brew some green tea. Pour it into a pitcher and have it cool in the refrigerator. Especially at this time of year, iced tea is a refreshing treat. Why not take some fresh mint leaves from the garden and add them to this delicious iced tea?

Make some simple but delicious sandwiches that even the children will like. Children will love using cookie cutters to make the sandwiches into fun shapes. Why not try triangle-shaped Fruit Spread and Wow Butter sandwiches? Or circular Open-Faced Chicken and Cheese sandwiches? My personal favourite is Cream Cheese and Cucumber Finger sandwiches. Yum! All of these are very simple to make and the children will love that they are making something delicious just for Mom.

A nice tray of fresh fruit is a great addition to the table. Have your children pick their favourites! Bright colours always look great.

Finally, you have to finish off the Tea Party with something sweet. Why not make our very own Kidco Kitchen Oatmeal Cookies with your children? This recipe is very easy!

What to do:

1)   Wash hands and preheat your oven to 350°F. Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper.

2)   In a large bowl combine butter, eggs, sugars and vanilla until well blended.

3)   Add flour, baking soda, salt and oats until combined.

4)   Stir in chocolate chips with a spatula.

5)   Using a teaspoon place small balls onto prepared baking sheets, leaving 2 inches between each cookie. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown. Let it cool for 5 minutes.

These also freeze well if you want to save them for later.

Happy Mother’s Day everyone! I hope you have a wonderful weekend with your families.

Cheers,
