Do you live or work in the Queen West area? Are you exploring early education and child care options? Our highly-anticipated Queen West facility opened in early 2019 and accepts infants, toddlers, preschoolers and school-age children in flexible programs and schedules. It is also home to our STREAM preschool program (science, technology, reading, engineering, arts, math) which features an emphasis on STEM areas and a Montessori approach to learning for children (click here to find out more about STREAM). The centre has capacity for 137 children in nine bright and beautiful classrooms with stunning views out to the city skyline, and a spacious gross motor room for indoor play and our Munchkinetics program. A small section of the centre has designated co-working spaces exclusive to Kids & Company families (contact firstname.lastname@example.org or click here for more information on co-working). .
Here’s why you should consider Kids & Company:
At Kids & Company, we use an emergent curriculum and learn through play philosophy. We’re very proud of our proprietary programs! They include Alpha-Mania (pre-literacy and early reading), Mini Masters (art), and Munchkinetics (movement) and are designed to engage our children in a learning process that encourages self-expression, creativity, coordination and most importantly, fun! We often hear children singing the Alpha-Mania theme song before the teacher even begins the lessons, a clear indication of their enthusiasm about learning through play. You’ll find sign language in our baby and toddler rooms, and all our children participate in music, French, science & exploration and creative play throughout our day.
Parking is available right under the building and there will be designated Kidco Parking as well as street parking nearby.
Meet The Director
My name is Pam Janes and I am the Director at the Kids & Company Queen West centre as well as one of our Toronto Area Directors. I am a recipient of an Early Childhood Education diploma from George Brown College and have over 16 years of child care experience. Outside the world of child care, I love spending time up north with my family which includes six nephews between the ages of 4-14 and my adorable dog! I also enjoy watching movies, reading and travelling. Now that you know a bit more about me, I would love to meet you! I hope you come visit our Queen West centre and see for yourself how Kids & Company can provide the right care and education for your child!
At Kids & Company, we work with your family to ensure that the transition is a smooth one. Before your child’s first day, we’ll provide information on what to expect. We’ll create an integration schedule that is right for your child and every day that your child is in the classroom, you’ll receive a daily report that lets you know how your child’s day was. You’ll also be able to see him or her on our in classroom web cameras. The Centre Director will even send you an email before the end of the day if your child has a special “wow” moment that day.
Toddlers learn best in the context of relationships within small groups. There are fewer distractions and children’s activities are more focused. In Kids & Company toddler classrooms, our small groups allow very young children to make connections, form caring relationships, and learn to understand other children.
All two-year-olds examine everything they see, hear, feel and observe in an attempt to make sense of the world around them. In our preschool programs, Kids & Company teachers interact, observe and interpret the interests of preschool students to encourage further discoveries by planning activities and investigations that expand your child’s learning.
Select Kids & Company locations offer school age programming for children ages 6-12 (Grades 1 – 6). Whether you have a younger child attending a Kids & Company location and you’d like the convenience of picking up your children in the same location or you’d like a program that’s run by trusted educators, Kids & Company school age programs may be right for your child.
Kids & Company introduced STREAM programming (science, technology, reading, engineering, arts and math) into our preschool classrooms to ensure educators have the most progressive STEM tools and training available to facilitate learning through our emergent curriculum approach. STREAM is not just a set of activities or one aspect of our program, but rather integrates with our curriculum approach with an eye to sparking curiosity, experimentation and self-led discovery in our children. Our educators work extremely hard to observe each child, identify their skills, interests and ways of learning, and then build opportunities for them to develop and acquire knowledge through multiple avenues. STREAM is about asking probing questions and facilitating the child in their journey of questioning, testing, and accumulating knowledge and skills. In a handful of centres, we have STREAM preschool rooms open for children whose interests heavily focus on STEM areas. However, STREAM is an integral part of all of our preschool programming in all regions.
