Ethnic Diversity

For the month of December Kidco Kiddies have been learning all about Ethnic Diversity in the Kidco Kitchen Nutrition Curriculum. They have been celebrating different cultures and food differences.  The children have being learning about Canada and that there are 195 different countries in the world!

We are lucky to live in Canada which is a multicultural country celebrating all different cultures and heritages and that is what makes our country so special. The children loved dressing up and participating in a multicultural parade because just like food, people come in different shapes, sizes, colours and they wear different things.  We have included The Munchkins in our Kidco Kitchen curriculum because they love all different kinds of foods!  The Munchkins know that eating a variety of ethnic and cultural foods is the key to staying healthy! By eating foods with a variety of textures, colours and flavours it helps to expand your children’s palates and ethnic foods are a great way to share different cultures with our friends!  This week has been particularly exciting because the children are keeping a food log during mealtime having discussions using their five senses: sight, sound, smell, taste and touch on which country the lunch dish originates from. We are using the mealtime and other emerging curriculum opportunities to reinforce what a wonderful country Canada is celebrating everyone’s culture!!

Happy Holidays from our kitchen to yours!
